Church of St. John

St John's Church is a neo-Gothic church and was built in 1896 to a design by Jos Cuypers. Its full authentic name is actually Sint-Johannes Onthoofdingkerk. It is a Catholic church and is Goirle's oldest parish church. There was a church on this site as early as 1450. The tower also dates from the 15th century. Until 1896, the nave was parallel to the Kerkstraat, but with the renovation it was decided to turn the nave a quarter turn due to lack of space. The tower was also raised by one segment.

During World War II, the church was targeted by shelling and St John's lost its tower. It was not until 1953 that the tower was restored to its former state. At 71 metres, it is still the tallest building in Goirle.

The interior of the church is also well worth a visit because of the beautiful light provided by the stained-glass windows and the many beautiful statues and paintings.
