Factory chimney HAVEP

In 1865, Hendrik van Puijenbroek started a textile mill in Goirle. He had 85 home weavers working for him after only 25 years (in 1890)! It was initially a factory for wallpaper linen; Goirle was very good at that! Later, linen and cotton were made on the loom. That linen had to be dyed and traded, and that's what Hendrik van Puijenbroek did! Gradually, the factory also switched from handwork to a steam engine. Therefore, an office for the dye house and an engine house were built on the east side in 1891. In between, the Goirle bricklayer Jan Baptist Spapens, also in 1891, built a small factory chimney. A beautiful chimney with quite a bit of decoration on it. It is rightly listed as a monument!
