In the 1950s and 1960s, Johnny Cash realised his own 'American dream'. He worked his way up from cotton-picking son to a superstar with his own television show. He was a real storyteller, but he did not always stick to the truth. Joost Botman dives into the history of Cash, 'The Man in Black'. His story is full of contradictions: drug use and religion, patriotism and self-esteem, a family man with a fascination for dark themes. In The True Johnny Cash, Botman takes you into a gripping performance, in which he talks about the iconic singer with his characteristic dark voice in a captivating and sometimes dryly comical way. Botman's warm voice fits Cash's songs perfectly. Guitarist Jos Kolenberg accompanies Botman. Joost Botman is a guitarist and singer.
