Coffee & Classical | Susato Trio

During this edition of Coffee & Classical, we welcome the Susato Trio with their programme 'Sounds of Imagination'! The Susato Trio is named after Tielman Susato, the 16th-century Antwerp composer who founded the first music publishing house in the Low Countries. Like their namesake, the trio has a passion for sharing music with the widest possible audience. They strive to perform not only the established piano trio repertoire, but also hidden gems from the repertoire that have somehow been lost in history. The group was founded in May 2022 by violinist Sarah Bayens (Belgium; fun detail: she was part of the Euregio Youth Orchestra, which also rehearses at the Jan van Besouw!), cellist Mikko Pablo (Philippines-USA) and pianist Markiyan Popil (Ukraine). In December 2022 they won 1st prize at the Generation Classique Competition organised by Les Festivals de Wallonie and in January 2024 they won 1st prize and the audience prize at the Supernova Chamber Music Competition organised by the Klara Festival. In September 2024, they won 3rd prize in the international competition 'Premio Trio di Trieste' in Italy. They are currently pursuing their master studies in chamber music through the European Chamber Music Academy Master programme, a two-year collaboration between the conservatoires of The Hague, Vienna, Paris, Oslo, Vilnius, Manchester and Fiesole.
