Why is it that a country as small as Ireland is known the world over for its music, from wistful ballads and lightning-fast reels and jigs to modern contemporary pop music? And how come the Men of Name have been inspired by Irish and Scottish music their entire musical career? Those influences could already be easily heard in hits like Laat Maar Waaien and Hela Hola (Tuthola) from their earlier years with Pater Moeskroen. In this theatre programme, the Men go in search of those Celtic roots. They will travel to Ireland and return with beautiful, exciting and hilarious stories from which much will become clear. The result is a complete Irish programme with plenty of classics, including by The Dubliners and The Pogues. Music that will take you across the green hills deep into the Irish pubs. And, of course, each song is put in the typical Men of Name jacket. Singer/guitarist Ton Smulders provides the optimum atmosphere with his humorous stories. The other men, Ad Grooten and Wilbert van Duinhoven, bring a shipload of instruments, including Irish whistles, banjo, accordion and bagpipes. And as if it were not enough, virtuoso fiddle player Siard de Jong joins them especially for this occasion. Slainte!
