Daan Oostdam (1997) is a classical pianist and obtained his master's degree at the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music in 2023. He has a great love for the Romantic piano repertoire: 'I love composers such as Rachmaninov, Medtner and Chopin enormously, because I am captivated by the lyrical expressiveness and drama to be found in their music'. Daan plays a lot of music for solo piano. He also strives to play with others as often as possible, because there are few things more enjoyable than making music together. As a chamber musician, he is active with his piano trio 'Riedbach', named after a beautiful place in the Swiss alps that all three of them have fond memories of. He also forms a duo with cellist Simon Velthuis. In 2023, they were guests of NPO 4 to present their upcoming album with works by Bloch, Rachmaninoff, Chopin and Saint-Saens. In 2024, he makes solo CD recordings with the label 7 Mountain Records, dedicated to the works of Nikolai Medtner, and records an album with the label Teles music together with his cello-piano duo. Daan draws a lot of inspiration from nature. As a child, he grew up in an old farmhouse, and his parents often took him and his sister to the mountains. Nowadays, he takes long mountain trips every summer. 'I believe that nature does not make aesthetic mistakes. I often trek into the mountains or seek the water and always come back purified. Lighter, if I left with a heavy mind, inspired, if I was at a dead end. Nature helps me feel what is important.' In recent years, he has won prizes at several competitions, including the Princess Christina Competition, Prix Dominique and ArtEZ's young talent programme. He also regularly participates in festivals such as the Francigena International Arts Festival, International Chamber Music Festival Schiermonnikoog and the Internationaler Musiksommer Campus Cleve. In 2023, Daan was invited to participate in l'Academie Musicale de Villecroze. He took lessons with musical luminaries such as Avedis Kouyoumdjian, Lilya Zilberstein, Jan Wijn and Alexandar Madzar thanks to the support of music fund Stringendo. Besides his development as a pianist, Daan finds much inspiration in teaching. He has been working as a teacher since 2019: 'I want to pass on my love for music, because I know how nice it is to discover and grow in your own musicality. I want to share that discovery and growth with my students'. The programme includes works by Scarlatti, Brahms, Medtner, Skrjabin and Ravel.
