On 7 and 8 July 2016, David Gilmour played two spectacular shows at the legendary Pompeii Amphitheatre, under the smoke of the famous volcano Vesuvius. 45 years earlier, in 1971, he played at the same venue with Pink Floyd for the rock classic Pink Floyd Live At Pompeii. David Gilmour's shows will go down in history as the very first concerts performed in front of an audience since the famous eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, which literally reduced the Amphitheatre to ashes for 2,000 years. Both concerts, equipped with a fantastic light show by Gilmour's veteran lighting architect Marc Brickman, were captured in 4K by director Gavin Elder. The resulting music and film document David Gilmour Live At Pompeii contains highlights from both shows. The setlist includes "Rattle That Lock" and "On An Island", from his two most recent solo albums of the same name. Pink Floyd classics "Wish You Were Here", "Comfortably Numb" and "One Of These Days" also feature. Both concerts featured a rendition of "The Great Gig In The Sky" from Dark Side Of The Moon, a song Gilmour very rarely performs solo. From one of the reviews on Bol: "The band Gilmour formed, the show he puts on, the mystique of the venue and, of course, the musicality of the man himself. Everything is right! It's enjoyment from start to finish. Also nice that the show was given a modern twist with an ultra thick laser show where the musicians even had to play with special glasses on. " So worth watching on the big screen!
